Tamilnadu - Rs 963-cr e-tax collection in Oct in Madurai
The facility for e-payment of commercial tax through State
Bank of India has enabled a collection of Rs 963 crore in
October, said Mr S. Murugan, Joint Commissioner for
Commercial Taxes, Madurai, in a ‘Dealers’ meet on e-tax
payment’ jointly held by State Bank of India (SBI) and the
Department of Commercial Taxes , here on Tuesday.

Throughout Tamil Nadu, Rs 2,300 crore
has been collected every month as commercial tax. While e-filing of
returns, introduced since November 2007, has picked up, e-payment of
the tax is yet to pick up. Awareness on the benefits is yet to
spread.
In Madurai circle 17,282 people are filing the returns through
electronic mode. Of these, while 15,472 belong to the mandated
category to file the retrurns, 1,810 people have volunteered.
